The Material Point Method for Simulating Continuum Materials
Abstract
The efficacy of the material-point method has been demonstrated on examples undergoing large deformation, collisions, and topological changes necessary for producing modern visual effects. MPM is also an important part of Walt Disney Animation Studios' simulation software. So far, the computer graphics community does not offer a tutorial or detailed introduction of MPM (beyond technical papers). This course covers the basics of continuum mechanics and MPM. It also includes some advanced but useful-in-practice algorithms.
